7 Tips for Healthy Nails

There are many ways to express yourself through your nails - traditional polish, stamping, dips, gel, nail wraps... the list goes on.  But in order to have beautiful nail art, you must start with a great canvas.  Keeping your nails healthy and in good shape is key!

Here are our 7 Tips for Healthy Nails:

1. Keep Nails Clean & Dry
Clean your hands and nails regularly and dry them well. Wet nails can become soft and break easier.

2. File & Trim Regularly
Be sure to clip hang nails and file any rough edges so your nails don't snag on clothing or other objects.

3. Don't Cut Your Cuticles
In general, leave your cuticles alone. Gently push them back about once a week and use cuticle oil to keep them soft, but never cut your cuticles.

4. Avoid Toxic Chemicals
Read your labels. Some nail polishes and products contain harmful chemicals such as dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, and toluene. (Luckily Ivy & Ash nail wraps are free of these and other toxic chemicals!)

5. Use a Top Coat
A clear top coat can help nail polish and nail wraps last longer. Re-apply every few days for best results.

6. Moisturize Regularly
Keep your hands and nails nice and moisturized with hand lotion or cream. Apply cuticle oil to keep your cuticles soft, too.
7. Give Your Nails A Break
Let your nails go bear one day a week and give them a chance to breathe. This is a great time to moisturize, apply cuticle oil, and file/trim.
